Volunteer Director / Team Member
Mohanji ACT Foundation (MAF) is a non-profit organization committed to addressing critical social issues and improving the lives of underserved communities in Sri Lanka. Our work focuses on areas such as education, health, youth empowerment, women empowerment, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development.
As a volunteer Director / Team member, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Mohanji ACT Foundation and making a lasting impact on Sri Lankan communities. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact through selfless service, while also gaining valuable leadership experience and expanding your professional knowledge and network.
REQUIREMENTS
Citizenship: Sri Lankan
Location: Preferably in Sri Lanka
Commitment: 5 to 10 hours per week
Level of Engagement: 90% virtually and 10% travelling during a year
Term of Engagement: Two years

As a member of the MAF team, you will:
- Ensure the MAF adheres to its objectives and governing principles while complying with Sri Lankan legal regulations
- Actively contribute to the Board of Director / Team Member role in providing strategic direction, shaping overall strategy and policy, setting targets, and evaluating performance
- Ensure the responsible management and deployment of the MAF’s resources
- Assist the team in overseeing the effective and efficient administration of the MAF
- rotect and uphold the reputation and values of both the local and global presence of Mohanji Foundations
- Ensure financial stability and accountability of the MAF and
- Act in the best interests of the MAF and further its goals.
Your key responsibilities and accountabilities would include:
- Lead the strategic direction and development of the organization
- Oversee program planning and execution to ensure alignment with Mohanji ACT Foundation’s mission and goals
- Foster partnerships with stakeholders, donors, and community organizations
- Support fundraising efforts and contribute to financial sustainability
- Assist and collaborate with Chair, the board, staff and volunteers to promote a positive and impactful work environment
- Attend board meetings convened virtually and contribute to the development of the MAF’s strategy and governance and
- Advise on the legal financial implications of the MAF’s strategic plans and key assumptions in the Business Development & Operational plans and budget where necessary.
You are likely to take it further if you have:
- Exposure to leadership and management skills in the non-profit or social sector
- Strong communication, organizational, and strategic thinking skills
- Passion for community service and/or spirituality
- Ability to commit time and resources to advance the MAF’s goals
- Prior experience in fundraising or project management is an asset
- Understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities associated with being a director
- Ability to present information in a clear and understandable manner
- Exercise sound independent judgment and contribute effectively to Board discussions, including making difficult recommendations when needed
- Be open-minded, respectful of diverse views, values, and cultures, and able to collaborate effectively as part of a team
- Demonstrate strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Work efficiently within set timelines and deadlines
- Show a strong interest in learning about and supporting the aims, principles, and values of the MAF, and commit to undertaking relevant training to fulfill the role of a director/team member
